Matt Barnes played half a season with Austin Rivers on the Clippers. Guys who played with Los Angeles Clippers guard Austin Rivers just don’t seem to like the coach’s son, and that’s unfortunate. There was the time in June when Big Baby told Rivers, “Don’t say s*** to me.
BOSTON — There's no team in the NBA that seems to like a good comeback as much as the Boston Celtics. They come into tonight's game against Philadelphia having rallied from a double-digit deficit to earn a victory nine times — more than any other team
The Orlando Magic are the last team the Cleveland Cavaliers beat. The Magic have lost 27 of its last 32 games and snapped a seven-game losing streak Tuesday by beating the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Cavs, meanwhile, are a mess, considering their DNA and string of three consecutive Finals trips.
Just when all the video tribute controversy between Isaiah Thomas and Paul Pierce seemed to be dying down, Jalen Rose heated it right back up. Live on ESPN's "NBA Countdown," Rose called Pierce "petty" for his comments on the Celtics potentially holding a video tribute for Isaiah on Feb. 11 when Pierce gets his jersey retired. Thomas tweeted on Tuesday that he (again) declined the Celtics' offer to hold the tribute for him so it wouldn't interfere with Pierce's night.
Kyle Lowry and Ben Simmons were ejected from the Jan. 15 game with six seconds left in the fourth quarter. The Toronto Raptors are shaking off those nice Canadian stereotypes, proving that they’re not just the polite and friendly team north of the border. It’s no wonder the Raptors are playing with a chip on their shoulder.
There is not going to be a tribute video for Isaiah Thomas shown the next time the Cleveland Cavaliers visit the Boston Garden at the request of Thomas himself. Never has there been this much controversy around a tribute video: Thomas didn’t want it the first time the Cavaliers came to Boston because he would not be playing, so the Celtics said they would run it the next time Cleveland came to town, which turns out to be the night of Paul Pierce getting his jersey retired, and he didn’t want to share the spotlight.
There was no such thing as a minutes restriction when it came to Jo Jo White. "I remember Jo Jo in the triple-overtime [NBA Finals game against the Phoenix Suns], when he carried the team and played all of those minutes," Celtics legend and fellow Hall of Famer Tommy Heinsohn told the Boston Herald. Heinsohn was White's coach in that game as the C's guard scored 33 points and played 60 of the 63 minutes in Boston's 128-126 victory.
Isaiah Thomas announced he was withdrawing his request for the Celtics to play a tribute for him Feb. 11, the same night Boston will retire Paul Pierce’s number. It made Thomas look magnanimous, and it prevented Pierce – even if he had a fair point – from continuing an unbecoming campaign that made him look petty. Except, before Thomas’ announcement, Pierce revealed just how far he went to stop Thomas’ video.
Think about it this way: If you are Dell Demps, the GM of the New Orleans Pelicans (one of the smallest market teams in the NBA), and you have a top-five player in Anthony Davis who can be a franchise cornerstone to build a contender around, would you even consider trading him? Move Davis and you’re not going to get someone as good to replace him. The Boston media keeps the rumors alive because it’s good for clicks.
Every day in the NBA there is a lot to unpack, so every weekday morning throughout the season we will give you the three things you need to know from the last 24 hours in the NBA. 1) Anthony Davis shows why Celtics’ fans drool over him, drops 45 in Pelicans win. There are executives and fans with 29 NBA teams who covet Anthony Davis and fantasize about would look like in their uniform.
